Army Brigade Executive Education

Executive Leadership Course participants

The KU School of Business provides a unique leadership development experience for newly selected Army brigade commanders through its Executive Education program. This 5-day program taught by KU faculty, and provides a learning environment and educational experience frequently used in the private sector for leadership development of corporate executives. In the program, participants learn business-world models they can apply to strategically managing the soldiers they lead.

Each week-long Executive Education class includes realistic case studies in corporate strategy, presentations from leaders of companies with world-wide reach, as well as on-site visits to companies such as Hallmark, Garmin, Ford MoCo and the Fike Corporation in the Kansas City area. Colonels selected for the program also make a stop at the University's Lawrence campus.

The goal of the Executive Education program is to provide a strategic conceptual experience that takes officers out of their normal world-view and provides a depth of understanding about how companies in important industries are addressing strategic challenges.

The KU Executive Education program is part of the Army's Brigade Pre-Command Course curriculum, which is taught at the Army's School for Command Preparation at Fort Leavenworth. Upon completion of the program, participants are awarded a certificate at the University of Kansas, recognized by both the School for Command Preparation and the KU School of Business for completion of the curriculum.
