The University of Kansas is committed to helping military and civilian leaders of the Armed Forces and major governmental agencies to better carry out their duties and missions worldwide.
The Office of Professional Military Graduate Education (OPMGE) serves as the liaison between the university and the Department of Defense (DOD) to assist the US Armed Forces in obtaining advanced civilian educational opportunities. OPMGE coordinates with the Deans of Academics at the Military Academies, with key military human resources personnel at Service headquarters, and with staff officers at the combatant commands to identify future university-level educational requirements. Once identified, the office then collaborates with university schools and departments to develop specialized programs to satisfy those requirements. Moreover, the office works with DOD education centers, such as the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College at nearby Fort Leavenworth, and all the service academies to produce military and civilian faculty with the advanced degrees necessary to teach at the highest level and preserve the certifications required by regional accreditation agencies. The office also seeks to facilitate the exchange of information, ideas, and knowledge between KU and the Armed Forces and to promote faculty and student exchanges, joint conferences and seminars, and curricular development and research. A key aspect of the office’s mission includes identifying research grant opportunities in support of DOD and providing support for grant proposals. Finally, the office takes an active role in promoting veteran programs on campus. In meeting its objectives, the Office of Professional Military Graduate Education enhances the capacity of KU and the nation’s military and governmental organizations to serve the nation and the world community.
By doing so, the Office of Professional Military Graduate Education hopes to enhance the capacity of KU and the nation's military and governmental organizations to better serve the nation and the larger world community.
